Connection and Purification of the Water Well

Project:  Connection of the Water Well
Completed:  Summer 2011

Project:  Reverse Osmosis System
Completed:  Summer 2015

The Maasai are often faced with long periods of drought which affect both the people and their herds.  The connection of a borehole and construction of water outlets, provides clean water and saves a 2-3 hour twice-daily, often dangerous, walk to the river.

A community water well has been connected in David's village, allowing accessible, clean drinking water for the villagers and the animals.

Thanks to the connection of the water well, the community and Building Hope Academy have a good supply of water. However, the area is known for the significant amount of minerals in the water which make it unsuitable for human consumption.

A large scale rainwater catchment system was constructed in 2015 to solve the problem of unfit drinking water.  The water is not only  used for cooking, showering and watering vegetables, it is also completely safe for drinking.  Access to safe drinking water removes the necessity to travel great distances to rivers to obtain water.
