Student Sponsorship
One of the most challenging parts of this project is not only to provide money for the bricks and mortar for the infrastructure, but also to create a sustainable plan to ensure that the schools can operate and that student costs are covered.
Enkare Ngiro School
In 2011 the students of Red Deer Lake School raised money to sponsor the top 2 academic students (one boy and one girl) from Enkare Ngiro School to go to high school. Very few students in rural Kenya get this opportunity. Children in the community rarely attend school and, if they do have the opportunity, it is for a very short time. The girls are married off at a very early age (12-13) to obtain dowry money and the boys are taken from school to tend to the livestock. Children have often lost a parent to disease or misfortune and their families have little money to spare for school fees. Each year since 2011, the students at Red Deer Lake School have sponsored an additional boy and girl (based on marks on their government exams) to go away to high school. In addition, other generous donors have made the decision to sponsor a child as well. Currently, 33 students from Enkare Ngiro School have been sponsored and are attending high school. This is the single most important opportunity that these children receive. In a perfect world, each of them would be given this chance. Click here to sponsor a high school student. |
Building Hope Academy
The cost for each student at Building Hope Academy is $400 per year. This amount covers all of their costs including meals (which they would not normally receive at home), supplies, health care, education. Some families are able to cover this cost, most are not. Sponsorship is required for these children. Click here to sponsor a primary school child. |
