The Boarding House
As the youngest students of BHA grew into preteens and teenagers, the need for a boarding house became apparent. The students' studies required more homework, and as many students returned home to huts with no electricity, and families unequipped to support academic success, they were unable to achieve the success they hoped. In addition, girls were at the age where early pregnancy and selling into marriage were common, and boys were often discouraged from school so they could take over adult responsibilities with herds of animals.
A boarding school would help mitigate many of these challenges. In addition, boarding fees, especially those from students outside the local community, would serve to assist with expenses at the school, such as teachers' salaries, materials, etc.
Students living in the residence on site have a supervised, safe place to live and study, and are provided with nutritious meals.
